i recently downloaded this cartoon..but it won't play on quicktime or vlc..
the error in vlc reads:
main: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `WMV3'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.
so..any suggestions?

sometimes files in the wmv3 format contain drm. You can hear the audio in Mplayer, but in windows media player it'll just take you to a microsoft drm website with an authorisation error.

I'm saying it depends on the file - if it's a file that the author has equipped with digital rights management, you can't play it without being authorized to do so (i.e. having paid for it), regardless of whether you're using a pc or mac.
Lots of people seem to share such files unknowingly on peer-to-peer networks (I've been told ;))...
