MBP + XP Drivers

When I got my MBP I installed XP under Bootcamp and later installed Parallels. All was well. I later made the mistake of installing VMWare while Parallels was running (d'oh!) and so I wiped the partition and started again.

Installed XP under Bootcamp and then used VMWare and installed VMWare Tools. I've not been able to get the graphics support in Bootcamp (although I use it rarely) and get the yellow question mark for the video, wifi, bluetooth, isight and other devices. I've removed VMWare Tools, used the MBP Install disc to remove and reinstall the drivers and tried running the graphics installers individually. No joy.

Any ideas? I really don't want to do another install if I can avoid it but not having the 3d graphics is getting to be a real pain (I only use Bootcamp for games on occasion).

All seems well in VMWare...

TIA

I know you said you didn't want to do another install, but that's what I would suggest. It almost appears as if Win drivers from your Leopard disk have either not been installed or did not install properly.

I have found from experience - trying to run Windows from Boot Camp and also using either Parallels or Fusion at the same time will eventually lead to disaster. My suggestion is to use either one or the other. If you need Win for games, use Boot Camp and save Fusion for an install of Ubuntu or something else.

Realistically, the only way you're going to get games to run at native Win speeds with 3D graphics is to use Boot Camp. It requires a reboot, but that's a small price to pay.

BTW, VMWare Fusion has released their public beta for version 2.0 which supposedly adds enhancements. If you feel daring and don't care about messing with your system, give it a try.

Regards.

Well, a clean install of XP solved the issue.

The biggest problem I had was having repartitioned in BootCamp Assistant I forgot to reformat and wondered why I was getting 'could not boot' errors.

Pillock that I am.

Cheers for the help ;D
