Maverick upgrade

I have Imac Op system 10.68, plan on upgrading to Maverick, I use many apple programs, iphoto,Idvd,numbers,keynote,itunes,also adobe CS5. Do I need to upgrade all these programs that I use.

Depends. Find out the versions of the apps you have...then see if they are compatible with Mavericks.

I don't think that CS5 should have any trouble. You may need to check on the "i-apps" & numbers you mentioned.

Subject the iMac being model 7.1 There were earlier 20" model, iMac 4.1 and 5.1 which cannot run Mavericks. If you do not know the model number, go to About this Mac > More Info > System Report and the top Hardware section will show the model number.

Beginning with OS 10.7 you can't run Power PC software. If you are running any of that software and it is critical to you it would need to be upgraded. Here's one way to identify Power PC software. Follow the directions there. Anything listed as PowerPC won't run.

Thanks for the help I will check the app versions as suggested ans if my apps are universal or intel based.

Definitely no problem with Adobe CS5: I bought mine in 2010, and installed on a [then] new MBP17 with 10.6, later upgraded to 10.7, and recently - Mavericks.

Just make sure that, all CS apps/components are up-to-date.

There was a problem with Acrobat Pro update, turns out Adobe Updater wanted the original install DVD, but didn't ask for it directly, telling some porkies, about wrong install location, instead. Once I put the DVD in the [now external] optical drive, it all went ahead smoothly.

Thanks again for the info and on CS5, I do have the versions of all the Mac apps., I hope I am not imposing if so please do not hesitate to let me know. iphoto 8.1.2, iTunes 11.05, IDVD 7.1.2, Keynote 5.1.1, Numbers 2.1, Pages 4.1, iMovie 8.06, Ical. 4.04, DVD Player 5.4, Adobe DNG converter 8.1, Adobe camera Raw 6.7.1.

I wouldn't worry about particular versions, especially for Apple's own apps.

Adobe update process is notoriously cumbersome and generally horrendous, so, unless it's a critical security update, like say, Acrobat Pro 9.5.5, you might as well leave it be, if there are no issues. For what it worth, my CS5 shows:

Photoshop 12.0.4; Illustrator 15.0.2; InDesign 7.0.4; Acrobat Pro 9.5.5 - the other numerous bits of CS5 I hardly ever use ...

You probably won't need to update all of your apps but there will likely need updating. Be sure to take a look and see if you are still running PowerPC software. That won't run on any OS higher than what you have now. Here's one way to check.

The programs you listed will upgrade with the OS. You need to check out your non-Apple apps.

Older PowerPC applications such as Office 2004 etc will not run. Rosetta which enabled this finished with OS X.6.
