But like hype.it said, what happens if you get them wet??? Probably destroyed? Since water damage causes paper to shrink....:(...But, I'm sure they'll be cheap...just don't put irreplaceable data on them -- buy the acrylic blu-ray discs for that ;)

With the disk being 51% paper, then it is most likely that the disk are laminated

lol, yeah wow. i didn't even notice the date. Still cool though, I hadn't noticed. So, I take it this technology hasn't been used much?

It just occurred to me, isn't an encyclopedia mass storage on paper? ;)

Encyclopedia is not "mass storage" quite trivial the ammount of data in an encyclopedia really.

Paper cone speakers have been around for decades and there are thousands of methods to make them water resistant. Lamination, bonding the paper with a water resistant substrate, weaving it through other waterproof layers, water resistant coatings (picture permanent scotchguard), etc. Not really a big deal.

yeah, it is old news, but it's still exciting. Does anybody know... where has the technology progressed on this?

lol, I'm the same way right now. I just went swimming in a friends pool for about 4 hours, and I'm very relaxed now. maybe I'll check later.
