Good day to all.
Been looking at my MacBook power cable. The connection point on the MacBook is on the left sid, the power cable comes from the right side causing a sharp bend in the cable going into the left side of the MacBook.
Has anyone thought of a solution to this issue.?
Many Thanks

David, is there a power outlet on the left side of your desk? I'm a bit confused by your problem because from just reading it, that is all that is needed. Maybe I'm missing something?

If you can't do anything else, would an extension cord maybe let you put the brick on the left side?

This was the first solution that came to my mind as well.:)

I hope no one minds if I add my suggestion for the same solution...

It seems as if it should work quite well. 😉

Either that or maybe rotate the desk 180 degrees... And that would save the expense of using an extension cord...

Thanks all.
The input is on the lest side on the MacBook looking at it But the mains cable comes from the right side from mains socket.
Now on the left side the the power cable has a bend in the cable and on that bend its starting to crack.
Hope you understand my issue.Has anyone come across this problem?
Thanks.

Yes...1000's & 1000's of users have had this problem. After the cable insulation gets older + sharp bends in the cable...eventually the cable insulation/covering cracks and/or splits. No real solution other than to tape it or replace the power cable.

Unfortunately two examples of this cable issue in my home (with the tape repair):

That is a very nice neat taping job. Congratulations!!!

Shrink wrap does a very nice job as well, but not always readily available in various colours, and if one can get it slid over the connector end.

It makes one wonder when all our third party power supply cables still look brand new when all the Apple cables have split or cracked and they still don't seem to have changed how they are made.

Wife did it. Lol

I think this is the 2nd time for both repairs. I did it the first time...and they eventually unraveled.

Absolutely. Like you said...sliding over the connector end can be tough...especially the bugger on the right:

That's where and why one needs to find and purchase the shrink wrap tubing with a much larger Shrink ratio. Unfortunately not always readily available. At least not always in the corner electronics store.

I'm guessing the larger shrink ratio shrink wrap is more expensive? Shrink wrap probably would be more durable & safer.

The problem with using large shrink wrap is that it does not shrink enough to provide an adequate repair. I have had loads of shrink wrap of various sizes when I was working in electronic repair and usually it's a last resort. Best fix is replace the cable with a new one.

Quite likely the larger shrink-wrap ratio tubing would be more expensive but I think it also tends to have a much heavier wall as well, but regardless, still much cheaper than a replacement Apple cable 😉 but unfortunately not as readily available as normal shrink wrap ratio tubing. At least not around this area that I know of, but I don't do much of that stuff these days and just use what I have available. From those old days when one could fix almost anything!!! 😉 😉

I have also used a hot glue gun quite successfully to surround the cable with a layer of the hot glue or caulk and use a flat stick or object to flatten and roll out the hot glue/caulk to cover the cable as it cools. It actually worked out better than the shrink tubing and I tapered it so it had some flex towards the end(s) where it was applied and allow the cable to bend gently without breaking again.

In my experience, the amount of shrinkage depends on its shrink ratio rating. It works extremely well if the correct sized product and the shrink ratio is used, at least in my experience.

By the way, I have never found it easy to find any replacement cables and most Apple cables are attached permanently to the power adapter bricks and certainly not designed to be replaced easily. Big understatement!!!! 😉
