Whatever you delete on the gmail site will reflect in the Mail app. I would suggest deleting all of the mail you want to get rid of on the gmail site, then right click on your GMAIL folder in Mail, click Synchronize, and it will automatically delete all the mail in the Mail app. Going forward, whatever you delete in the Mail app will go into your trash folder. If you wish to empty the trash to reflect both in the Mail app, and on the gmail site, go to your trash (or sent items folder, whatever you're trying to get rid of), Select all the messages, and then delete. It will take some time, but the Mail app will take control, and will delete all the messages on the gmail site as well. I hope that made sense. Edit: I would also suggest setting up a spam filter so all of your spam automatically gets deleted. You have to set it up on the gmail site (Server) for it to take effect. I would recommend quitting the Mail app when setting this up. Once you're done, you can start the Mail app, and the settings will automatically take place. 1. Go to settings in Gmail 2. Go to "Filters", then "Create new filter" 3. In the "Has words" Section, put in "is:spam" 4. Click on "Next step" 5. Check off "Skip the Inbox (Archive it)", "Mark as read", and "Delete it" 6. Click on "Create/update filter" This will automatically recognize any kind of spam email and automatically trash it. I have it set on my account and there have never been any problems with it. It is actually very smart, and I have yet to find an actual email that was intended for me to get misplaced, or a spam email get through.
