Good day,
I played with both emails accounts on my portable unit.
After incompatible parameters, I had to delete both of my accounts.

After I tried to close the Mail app. NO GO.
The Mail app won't close.
Can't close the computer because Mail is opened.
Can't trash Mail App because it remains open.
Can I copy the Mail app from my IMAC to MacBook Pro?
I used FORCE QUIT and out it went.
But why was this produced?

Now I have to rebuild both accounts.
Best Regards

R

Hello Raybce - is this a new problem after a Yosemite upgrade, i.e. were your mail accounts working on your laptop w/ an older Mac OS X? Which type(s) of email accounts are you using (be specific, e.g. Yahoo, Gmail, etc.).

What do you mean by the 'Mail App' won't close, e.g. the 'red' button in the left upper corner will not 'shut down' Mail? Have you opened the Apple menu and tried to a 'Force Quit'?

The Mail App is part of the OS X and you would have to re-install Yosemite or revert back to a previous OS X - Dave :)

Addendum - OK, you changed your OP as I was composing the response above - ;)

more stuff

Hello RadDave

Many thanks for your reply.

Yes this is a new problem. It all started when i tried to convert one of my email accounts from 'POP" to "IMAP". (Due to duplication of mail) The procedure I followed are instructions from this forum.
After a while, the Mail app. wouldn't close. I had to use "FORCE QUIT" The red button was inoperative.

I hesitate to re-install Yosemite, I have too many softwares already installed.

This morning I will try recovery from Time Backup.

Many thanks again and best regards.

Same problem here - I upgraded to Yosemite several months ago without issue. Then sometime Mail wouldn't close and I had to Force Quit even though no errors are reported. Now it happens > 75% of the time. THEN my "ERASE DELETED MAIL" quit working most the time - now I get the 'ARE YOU SURE' window but nothing happens once selected. About 10% of the time mail just CRASHES. Tried Rebuilding mailboxes but that function doesn't appear to do anything. All else with Yosemite appears fine.

Let me know if Time Machine fixes it Raybce pls!
