- Your Mac's Specs
- iMac 20" 2.16 GHz Duo Core 2GB 667MHz RAM
Greetings, fellow Mac peoples!
Mail's SEARCH function does not return results. Must close out of Mail completely, use Disk Utility - Repair permissions. Then Mail's search will work fine. Once I've repaird permissions, it will not occur again until the next time I boot up. (Reboot, turn back on, same thing to Mail's problem.) Occasionally it behaves but not often.
Spotlight has no troubles, incidentally.
Mac info:
OS X
20" iMac, October 2006
2.16GHz Duo Core
2GB 667MHz RAM
Mail version 2.1.1 (752.3)
Original, factory install
Mail "search" problem ongoing since first attempted use (permissions "solution" brought to my attention by experienced user)
wireless Mighty Mouse/keyboard
This is what Repair Permissions does:
Repairing permissions for “Macintosh HD”
Determining correct file permissions.
Permissions differ on ./Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/Frameworks/InternetUtilities.bundle/Contents/MacOS/InternetUtilities, should be -rw-rw-r-- , they are -rwxrwxr-x
Owner and group corrected on ./Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/Frameworks/InternetUtilities.bundle/Contents/MacOS/InternetUtilities
Permissions corrected on ./Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/Frameworks/InternetUtilities.bundle/Contents/MacOS/InternetUtilities
Permissions repair complete
The privileges have been verified or repaired on the selected volume
Note there's nothing there about Mail... yet the above fixed my problem just now. I'm at a loss as to why but I only barely learned how to burn CDs in Terminal, so what do I know.
I've got 8 pcs and two windows/dos laptops... I'll tell you, I love my mac. I can't say I don't have uses for my PCs, but the Mac has quickly become my weapon of choice for most things, especially photos and music! But, like all computers, it still has a few quirks.
Suggestions/ideas would be appreciated.
