I configured two Hotmail addresses in Mail... They worked just fine the first couple of times, but now they don't sync at all. They just seem to freeze (the little circular thingy just keeps going round n' round)... It doesn't even give me messages of the "timed out" kind...

I have a third account, with Gmail, and it works fine.

Does anyone know what's going on?

Can anyone help?

I'd really appreciate it...

As far as I know you have to pay hotmail for POP access. I could be wrong but I'm fairly confident that this is the case. It is Microsoft.

Yeah you need the hotmail premium account I think. I have heard of a workaround of sorts, out there, in the ether, but never tried any hacks myself that I can recommend.

Hi, that is common problem with Hotmail. Old users (my accounts are probably over 5 years old) can still access Hotmail via POP. The newer accounts can't. However, I read a workaround that used to work...I am not sure if it still does but here it is:

If you have a PC or Windows running somewhere dl the WindowsMail Notifier (not sure if this was the exact name--but you'll find it) and configure it to notify you about incoming mail with your hotmail accounts. After this use your AppleMail and configure it to access your Hotmail accounts via POP. Miraculously it used to work. I don't know if it still does but it's worth a try.

Good luck,

kuchiki

Edit: Here is a useful link with alot of plugins for Apple Mail:

i just use a patch called httpmail and it works fine for me

This plugin is needed to use hotmail accounts in Mail but some of the newer accounts cannot be checked using this plugin. The workaround I posted above used to work to solve this particuar problem.

Another possibility I found recently may be using the following application:

http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/7851/mail-forward

Unfortunately I haven't used it so I can't really comment on the software but maybe this is a alternative for your problem when nothing works: forwarding all your hotmail emails to another account you can access with Apple Mail.

What you can do is set your hotmail account to forward all of your messages to an IMAP or a POP account (such as gmail) Gmail works fine with Mail, just set it up and you'll get all of your hotmail messages forwarded to Gmail and you'll be able to read them in Mail. You may also direct them to a .mac email account if you have one. But I don't like to do all this hassle, so what I do is (and it works beautifully with new or old hotmail accounts):
1. Download Mozilla Thunderbird (Free) http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/
2. Download the WebMail extension for Thunderbird (Free) http://webmail.mozdev.org/
Thunderbird is another program like Mail.

Hi may I ask:
What kind of application would you use for forwarding all the emails received in your Hotmail (Windows Live Mail)? I think Hotmail doesn't support forwarding in the basic (free) version. I'm considering using the forwarding option also but I do not know any good (free) applications.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

The best application for doing this is MailForward in my opinion, it's not free though. I think there is a way to do it for free, you might wanna look at this http://pyropus.ca/software/getmail/
