I have been sitting here minding my own business on my MacBook Pro and all of a sudden my Magic trackpad stopped clicking! It worked as far as finger sliding actions are concerned, single/double/triple finger taps, but no click? I tried a little stronger pressure and still no click?

I resorted to using the MBP built in trackpad and that was fine. I thought that switching it off/on wouldn't do anything as it is a physical action, but in the end I decided what the h ell and off/on it went and now everything is OK and I get the clicks just fine, no problems. This is the first time it's happened and I am wondering if it's a one off or the approach of a problem?

Has anyone else heard of this please?

Edit : - I have just had a look at the Apple site and they indicate that the Mk2 trackpad is no longer available and point to the original, I think?

Amazon still sells them. $119.00 from the US site, check Amazon UK to see if they also sell it.

Yes they do Chas, but, as normal it's almost £££ for $$$ at £109.

Do you have any idea as to what may have caused my initial problem? Is it the first sing of a fail do you think? Also, if Apple are ditching them is there a problem with the Mk2??

It could be the first sign of something going wrong with it. I also have one that I got on sale from Amazon some time ago but really don't like it. And yes, it appears that Apple is no longer selling them but concentrating on new peripherals for their M1 machines.

Keep using it as long as you can. You really can't take it apart and repair it since it's sealed. I'm not even sure how to change out the rechargeable battery if it goes flat.

Ta for the info Chas. I was thinking along the same lines. we are going to have to come up to date in the not too distant future as our iMac 21 1/2 is a late 2009 and the MBP 13 was received on the 10/10/2010 all the tens! The trackpad is well outside the warranty period too me-thinks :))

I nearly forgot? What is the difference between the Mk1 and Mk2 trackpads? Any idea?

Yeah John.... The MK1 is battery operated and the battery can be changed out. The MK 2 is rechargeable and sealed.

Oh? It looks as if I have a Mk2 then because it's a rechargeable jobbie. I got it in Nov 2015.
