My wife's mouse has been recharged but her iMac is trying to connect but says that it needs to be in discoverable mode. She can't log into her iMac without it. Is there a key that takes her to her user icon without using the mouse? if so how do I then get into her System Settings to reconnect her mouse?

You should able to use use the Tab key on the keyboard to move around and arrow keys to select a specific user. Then hit enter to get the password prompt. If the cursor doesn't move there automatically, you can Tab over to it.

Try tapping the first letter for the name of her user account and that should take you to and highlight the icon for her account. If there's more than one account with names starting with the same letter. the cursor goes to the first one. You can get to the second account using the arrow keys IIRC.

Thanks. It seems that her keyboard was low on battery as well; all now RESOVED and thanks for your help.

Doesn't the Mac provide any sort of warning of a low battery when that situation happens... That's a pretty bad design flaw if that is the case, at least in my opinion.

Thanks Jake.

It would seem rather strange to me if it didn't, but I guess it might be easy to miss or not super obvious.

Bear in mind hat this is my wife’s iMac so she must have failed to pick up the warning.

Dangerous territory, Alwyn. Best not let her see that post! :)

I shall emphatically deny ever seeing such a comment but I would suggest she was possibly sidetracked or distracted by some other more important thing like saving the kettle for your tea from boiling over and saving the fresh biscuits she just baked from getting soaked perhaps.

Somewhat like my Logitech M705 mouse flashing a red LED to indicate a low battery that I tended to ignore for several weeks, after all the two AA batteries it uses last about 3 years so it's not exactly a frequent thing to happen.

I'm not sure about the keyboard warning because I haven't seen it in a while since my keyboards rarely get that low. In recent macOS versions, the warning/notice appears in the same area as other notifications. It's easy to miss sometimes--especially if there are other notifications there.

The notification for low mouse batteries appears when the battery has about 10% charge left IIRC. I think the keyboard notice behaves similarly.
