eric...there are tons of old posts on this forum regarding deleting MacKeeper. Use the Advanced Search feature on the forum and you should find all kinds of instructions on how to do just that.

MacKeeper

OK..thanks a lot guys... I got to the message or details about removing it and hopefully I've done so.
Had to figure out first why it was refusing.. then remembered I'd not STOPPED it first so did that... THEN the App went OK to the Rubbish Cart and at the moment it all seems clear.
In the process I did find out from a Get Info screen that the darned thing seems to have first got on the computer on 7th November so not very long ago.. I'm very well aware from other things about this crappy business of CNET &Softonic in recent times.. makes you wonder sometimes where the Heck to get some things from.. but just can't recall any way this MacKeeper came to me on 7th November.. anyway I hope I've seen it off.. and loads of thanks to those who've jumped in with a quick response here.

Best thing for adware is AdwareMedic. Also consider installing extensions AdBlockPlus and Ghostery to keep a tight control on things.

Harry -
Thanks for that - I'll have a look at the AdwareMedic one. Right now..since I bought the MacBook just 12 months ago I've just been more than happy to simply use it as and when.. And it does give me a lot of pleasure beyond what my old Windows laptop does now...but the latter is stacked with loads of add-on Drives and lots and lots of things I could never use on a Mac so I'm just using it til it drops and meanwhile enjoying when needed the fine MacBook. No idea how I got that MacKeeper installed as it's fairly recent it seems...just very thankful now that I never bothered with the Update that I do remember I got a screen note about - twice I think - but ignored. I didn't get any sort of screen about giving a reason for the deletion (as the removal instructions did say).. it just took the App to the Trash then emptied it.. so I hope it HAS indeed got rid of it.

eric voi downloads from CNET and Softonic. They are known to include 'little helpers' in the software that can cause these problems.

CNET/Softonic nasties

Harry -
Yes I've been aware of these two sites in particular (and I believe a few like them are worth avoiding) .. I ALWAYS scan the d/loads as I install as I'm well aware of the half-hidden unwanted things I've had to UNTICK many times.
Life is not as pleasant in computers these days !!
