When a laptop starts to overheat, does it mean that it's irreparable?
Absolutely not.
The first question is...is it absolutely overheating...or do you just think it's too hot?
If it was overheating...only reasons why it's over-heating would be:
- old/dry thermal paste
- dirty inside (needs to be cleaned)
- a failing or failed fan
How long is the "lifespan" of a MacBook - How long could it function flawlessly?
Sometimes folks phrase this sort of question incorrectly. Do you actually mean "useable life"...or total lifespan?
If you do mean actual "lifespan"...heck depending on how much use it sees...it could last 50 years (maybe only need a hard drive upgrade).
If you actually mean "useable lifespan". Many folks upgrade between 3-5 years. But it's not unheard of for folks to still be using an 8-10 year-old computer as their "daily" computer.
But after 8-10 years...things get pretty difficult (OS is way too old, new apps need newer OS versions, etc.). The hardware in many cases still works fine. But the OS & software is too old.
