I have a Macbook and want to hook it up to an old TV that only has the red-yellow-white connection.

Would the mini-DVI to Video connector, and then something like the Audio/video RCA cables for iPod (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FIN73Y/?tag=macforums0e4-20

Would that combo work, or am I wrong? I'm not really sure what can plug into that video adapter, so I'd appreciate any advice.

the mini-DVI to video will work, and then you just need a composite video cable that you can buy at Radio Shack. For audio you need a mini jack to composite cable that you can also buy at Radio Shack.

Oh, so I would need separate cords for audio and video? Hmm...

Would someone be kind enough to provide links to exactly the products I'd need to get audio and video from a laptop to a computer? I'm ordering it as a gift for my sister and I really don't want to send the wrong items.

Thanks so much.

Here is what you need for audio:

http://www.radioshack.com/product/i...=phono+cable&kw=phono+cable&parentPage=search

And here is video:

Just connect the mini dvi to the mac, the yellow video cable to the other end, then connect it to the tv. I have mine connected to the front A/V ports on my VCR because the A/V ports on the back of my tv are in use.

Then connect the y cable to the headphone port on the mac, connect the red and white ends to the tv or stereo and you are set.

And with the audio cable you can play your itunes through your stereo. I haven't used my cd player in ages and cds have become pretty obsolete. You can also connect an ipod in the same fashion. If you do connect this to a digital receiver, you will need to change the source from digital to analog. My receiver just has a button I press. But anyway have fun.

It's actually pretty easy and you can get the cables in any store. I have lot's of those cables scattered through my house...
What I do have to say is that the image quality is not so good. I asked my brother to get me a mini dvi to vga cable for my college presentations but he got me a mini dvi to video cable instead...sure it's great for connecting to the TV and watching pictures in big size and even better if your TV supports s-cable, but recently I bought the mini dvi to vga and connected it to my parent's sony bravia 32" and the image is just flawless!!

Hey,

A google brought up this thread, and I was just wondering if i could get clarification if the previously mentioned adapter (Mini-DVI to Video) works on the newer Intel Macbooks? I don't see why they shouldn't but the description on the Apple site is very specific that it will work on the Intel iMacs and the G4 powerbooks!

I have the Mini-DVI to VGA adapter already, so I really just want confirmation of my assumptions!

thanks!

I run the Apple mini DVI to VGA cable into a VGA to an RCA cable which then goes into my TV. Then the Audio cable that was posted above. You can get a VGA to RCA for about $2 on Ebay.

I've been following this thread and have got the mini dvi to video adapter and the necessary cables to connect my macbook to a 57" Sony projection tv. I get sound, but the screen is black. Before I start Front Row to watch video or view photos, I can see my screensaver but nothing else from my computer screen (dock, open windows, etc.) As soon as I start front row, the screen goes black. I'm thinking it is a resolution or mirroring problem, but after messing with both with no results I'm hoping someone can lend a hand. Any thoughts?

I just went to CompUSA to buy a Mini DVI to Video adapter and brought it home only to find that it doesn't fit my MacBook. The label says that it's for iMac, Powerbook, and iBook, but it seems to be too small. It was the only Mini DVI to Video adapter that they carried, anyone know if there are multiple adapters out there?
