I've just put a WEP password on my elderly netgear router and now my MacBook won't link to it -- any ideas please

WEP has been cracked. You should use a more secure protocol like WPA, WPA2. Some apple devices won't connect to WEP because it is so insecure.

WEP is the only option on this old router. It is not mine so I can't do much about the router. Is there any way around the problem other than getting my employer to buy a newer one?

You can no longer use WEP with your Mac, iPad, or iPhone. Tell your boss to purchase a new router, one that supports WPA, WPA2, and throw the old Netgear away as it is not secure.

Tell your boss there is not much difference between an open network with no password and a WEP network - really - the neighborhood 10 yr old geek can crack that password in just a couple of minutes.

It is either a new router or 'hello hackers'.

New Router is the only option now for any Apple device. Personally they should throw WEP to the trash as it's useless now.
