According to Mactracker your machine takes this type of memory and quantity:

Maximum Memory 16 GB (Actual) 8 GB (Apple)
Memory Slots 2 - 204-pin PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM


Instead of doing what you propose.... I would purchase two 8 GB modules and use that instead for a total of 16 GB. Using one 2 GB module and one 8 GB will work but it's always advisable to use memory in matched pairs for maximum speed and efficiency.
