Attempting to upgrade memory on mid-2012 MBP with core i7 processor. The oem config was two banks with 4gb (1600DDR3) in each. Aiming to put 8gb in each bank. Removed both original memory moduels. Inserted new ones. Powered on and met with beep every seven seconds or so; a single beep every seven seconds. I can remove one module, leaving one bank empty, and it powers up and runs just fine recognizing 8g ram. I can do this with each of the new modules, and in each of the banks. (So both modules seem to be fine; and each of the banks seem to be fine). But I can't get it to power up with both modules properly seated in each bank. Worse yet, I cannot seem to get back to where it all started. Meaning, I have tried to simply re-insert the original two ram modules in each bank, and the same issue occurs - it will only boot with one module in one bank, and switching each module to the other bank did not fix the issue either. Both modules work just fine on their own, in either bank0 or bank1; showing 4g installed ram. But I cannot get the computer to boot with two modules installed; despite the fact that the computer worked just fine with the original two 4g modules, for a total of 8g ram, before I started this whole upgrade journey. Is there something simple I'm missing here? This MBP should accept up to 16g with both banks populated; but now, I can't even go back to where I was this morning.
