I have a 13" MacBook Pro Early 2011 with a non-functioning Optical Drive. I also have a 15" MacBook Pro Early 2011 with a working drive. Can I remove this drive and replace the non-working drive with it? Are the connections the same?
Thanks,
Henry

Hi Henry - I'm sure that some of our 'hardware gurus' will respond to your replacement question above. But why not just buy a new or refurbished drive (likely $50 or less) and work on just one machine w/o touching and disabling the other? If interested and not already done, checkout the iFixit Guide HERE - first page shown below w/ a link to buying the part(s) needed. Good luck. Dave :)

Yes they are the same. If you check this link from Powerbookmedic...and examine the "Compatibility" list (2nd orange button on the page)...you'll see that the optical drive is compatible with both Early 2011 MacBook Pro's mentioned:

Unibody Macbook Pro Superdrive UJ-868 9.5mm SATA UltraSlim Slot Loading - 661-4736 661-4737

HTH,

p.s. Thread moved to better area (Notebooks)..not a macOS question.:)
