My macbook suddenly froze, and all I had was a spinning beachball. After much playing about I cleared the beachball and got back to where I sign in with my password. As soon as I entered password, the pasword cleared and waited for me to re-enter. This happened many times. I then started in safemode, and this time my password was accepted and I now have the desktop showing my various icons. However, nothing happens when I click on any of the icons. Can anyone please help?

Boot your MacBook with the original install DVD and use Disk Utility from Utilities on the disk to check the hard drive. Highlight the hard drive on the left side and then select verify and repair from the First Aid tab on the right side. Let's see what it says.
