MacBook dates confusion

I have a mid 2012 MacBook Pro. I just installed coconut battery to check the battery on my iPad Air 2. However, when I checked the battery on my MacBook, Coconut batt shows the manufacture date of the battery as Oct 2013 and manufacture date of the MacBook as Nov 2013.
Am I right in thinking the date designation ( mid 2012) is the model name rather than an indication when it was manufactured?

Yes, that is correct. You have a mid-2012 model that was manufactured in Nov 2013.

Just for info sake, that model (Mid MacBook Pro 2012) was still being sold until it was finally discontinued in October 2016. It was and continues to be a popular model MacBook Pro.

Thanks. I didn’t realise Apple did this. It’ll be interesting to discover when my older 2008 MacBook Pro was made!
