I have had mine for 5 months and yesterday I tried to turn on and the screen flashed once the disc drive span and the white light came on and that was it.

So I took it back to John Lewis and they sent it off for repair but now I really miss it and feel strange going back to my windows machine.

Has anyone had this happen and has anyone been sent a new one instead of a fixed one.

It all depends on the state of your MacBook, I guess. If it is a serious issue you might as well get a new one. In most cases however, they can easily repair things.

PS: It must be awful to go back to Windows. :(

Yep windows is so much slower and my old pc has always had problems and my MB was just right to fit under my tv and use as a media player.

dude.....ALWAYS call apple first before you just ship it off for repair....I dont know how close you are to an Apple store but I bet they could ahve fixed it on site....you could have tried resetting the PRAM that worked for me for a lil while then i just found out I had a faulty battery, they replaced it at the Apple store and it worked fine......and your problem sounds just like my problem

Be warned, good old John Lewis will probably wipe your Macbook during repairs. So I hope you backed everything up! My friend took his Mac just to have the charger repaired with JL and it came back erased, he was not impressed :( it also took them a very long time!

Thanks for the warning Flic but I had upgraded the hdd a few months ago and formated the old one to use as a external drive so when died I just swapped them over before taking it in and lucky I got it back yesterday which is only 4 days which i was quite a surprise since I was expecting a couple of weeks, I would hate to think how long a windows laptop would have taken.

The fault with the MB was the motherboard so lets hope it doesn't happen again.

I was just so surprised that JL took it in when I had lost the receipt It's a shame other retailers are not like this.

Thanks for the advice

I would have gone to the apple shop if I was near one but my nearest is London and I didn't fancy the trip.

But I didn't realise how much I would miss it.

I have now been considering a mac mini now they have upgraded them just incase this happens again.
