Macbook and recording

About a month and a half ago, I purchased a new Macbook. I've been messing around with garage band a little bit, which is cool, but I am looking to upgrade to a decent recording program. What programs could you guys recommend that would work with my macbook? It appears that the current Cubase software doesn't work properly with intel macs. Any affordable recording software program suggestions are greatly appreciated!
