hi guys

is there any specific ram for the Mac Pro 5.1 ?

ive upgraded the CPU to an x5680 yesterday and it went all well.

ive got 16GB ram in there at the moment but was thinking to go up to 32GB

ive got an NVME boot drive but am also considering getting a bigger one of them as 250GB isn't much in todays world.

so my question is what DDR3 ram can I use ?

does it need to be ECC Ram ?

im on osx 10.13.6 haven't gone Mojave due to it not supporting my current GPU the GTX960 4GB or better still there are no native drivers for that card although if I try to upgrade to Mojave it see's the GPU as capable and does the upgrade but obviously I have no video after its done.

thanks for any advice

Jason

I'm sure someone in the UK can better recommend where to buy memory. Here in the US we usually recommend either OWC or Crucial.

And yes, the memory has to be ECC.

hi chscag

and thanks for the reply im not so worried about where to get the ram as the Bay is cheap for it in that sense,

it was more the type and speed of the ram I had in mind but ECC ram is a good option as its much cheaper to buy,

but what speed would you recommend ?

thanks
