A friend who has a 2008 Mac Pro just upgraded to Yosemite. He primarily uses his Mac in Japanese. Since the upgrade to Yosemite, apps flip the language back to English, this happens in all apps, Word, Mail, Pages and the browsers. Has anyone had this problem? If so, how have you resolved it?

What does he have setup as his main language in System Preferences, "Language & Region"? OS X is designed so that you can switch languages in the middle of a program such as Word or Pages. Yosemite language selection is no different than previous versions of OS X.

Depending on what country you and the friend are located in…I think that the default language is English in English speaking country's. So if the previous OS was running in Japanese…when the upgrade to Yosemite was done…maybe the installer defaulted back to English (and Japanese needed to be chosen a the language at this point).

Regardless…as chscag mentioned…you should be able to chance to Japanese using the Language control panel preference.:)

Japanese/Japan

Thank you.

Japanese for Language and Japan for Region. Basically at setup time, he selected Japan and Japanese although he lives in the US. Just found out his MBA does not exhibit the same issue. It too is Japanese/Japan. Maybe this belongs in the hardware threads.I didn't know that his MBA was working fine.
