So I'm trying to format/reinstall OS X on my mac mini (2012) and it has OS X 10.9 on it (although last time it said to 10.9.5). The computer boots up fine, but when I start it up and hold the option key (i think? i have a windows keyboard so its control key) and choose recovery 10.9.1, and it shows the logo and that its loading but its never gone beyond that :\ I've waiting long enough to know its not just slow. For anyone that helps, thanks.

Try the two-key combo...command + r...when you reboot the computer.

To access recovery after chime immediately hold down Command R to access Recovery and then run Repair Disk from there to see the state of the hard drive. Option on a Windows kb is ALt is it not? Control appears on both type of boards.

Yes...we understand that.:) Try the command + r combo when booting (or the appropriate key on a Windows keyboard).;)

This is what the Recovery Partition Menu should look like (or something very similar):

See the option to "Reinstall Mac OS X"??:) That's why you should boot into the Recovery Partition first...and not worry about the Internet Recovery at this point.;)
