Alright so I am new to this site and macs in general other than iPods and iPhone but I have a question I cannot find an answer to anywhere. I currently have a working PC laptop and non working PC laptop (from this point on I am only speaking of the NON working PC laptop). I am going to be receiving a mac mini and am very excited to make the switch to mac but I will need to be fairly mobile. Ideally I would want a laptop but that is out of my budget (a big fat $0). My question is, would it be possible to use the busted laptop as a portable monitor/keyboard for my mini. It would never have to go back to being a PC laptop so any modifications could be permanent. I know somebody who knows what he is doing electronically so soldering and the likes would not be a huge issue. I assume a DVI plug would have to be spliced in but is this even possible? Any help would be great. I am not looking for a bunch of replies stating to just buy a mac book pro or buy an external monitor... sorry but lets not waste anybodies time here scrolling for answers. The main reason I would want this is because I could get a larger laptop bag that would easily and safely carry my monitor, keyboard, and mini and have a fairly portable desktop/laptop crossover. I suppose even if it was just the monitor if it had to be that would be better than nothing. Thanks so much in advance for any advice (unless it is bad advice:) )

Anything is possible if your a Techno wizz. I would just go to the thrift store and buy..yes buy a small USB keyboard ...like $3.00 You may also find a 15 inch flat panel.
It would be possible to remove the laptop LCD and you have to figure out the outputs on the leads and connect a 12 volt transformer to run the panel and the leads for the video would be VGA you would setup an DVI to VGA adapter. Google.. make your own LCD monitor ..and see what you get. Easier just to find a 14 0r 15 inch flat panel.

Now if you could find a DVI to Composite Video adapter you could use a small DVD player with video inputs.
Good Luck.
