Hi,

I have a Mac mini Core Duo 1,83Ghz, 2GB, MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-846, I have 3 years with it and been happy so far, but yesterday while I was trying to install Snow leopard, it kept ejecting the install disc, it is a combo family pack so I tried with Ilife and Iwork with the same results. I tried different discs and found out that I could read CD's just fine but not any DVD's.

When I try to read a DVD I just hear some buzzing and after a short while it gets ejected, some take more time than others but eventually every DVD gets ejected with no error message or hint of showing their info.

Now every CD I have tried works fine, so Im confused. Could it be that my firmware got corrupted some how or could this be the end of my DVD drive ? Any comments to solve or to understand this will be welcome.

Thanks

First up try cleaning the unit with compressed air, and if no joy, a DVD/CD cleaning disc. Here is what others have done in your circumstances as this drive does not seem particularly reliable:-

Apple - Support - Discussions - MacBook Pro will not read DVD-R ...

Perhaps this is the result of the minimising of a superdrive to fit the laptop/mini environment?
