My ISP, and others in Australia, report that overnight something has changed with the sertup of Apple Mail. When connected to the 'net, activating Mail and Get Mail, a black triangle with an exclamation mark comes up unable to connect to the server.

In Mail Preferences the incoming Mail Server is greyed out. The outgoing is fine and emails can be sent. Setting up a new account or re-entering the same account details, Get Mail immediately causes the failure again.

This is affecting all models, desktop and notebooks, and ipads etc.

Anyone know if Apple issued any automatic mail updates overnight?

No problem here in the US with my mail Harry. I use gmail as my ISP and I haven't seen problems from anyone else. Could be an Australia thing?

No problems here in Ohio. Just an idea - have you thought of changing your DNS servers on your router? You could try google's free ones: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 or OpenDNS - 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220. Just to see if it is a DNS issue.

Not sure what else to suggest. I know you are aware of the mail issues a lot of us had with Yosemite. I don't think they issues any mail updates that could have caused the problem.

Yes thanks tried all that. Still have Incoming Mail Server greyed out and no incoming mail, no trouble sending.

No problem here in Indonesia with gMail IMAP accounts using Mac Mail. This is a long shot but could you try a different email client and see if you get the same result?
eg. Thunderbird.

That is really weird - and what a pain! Can you ping the incoming mail server?

I just had a similar problem on a Windows computer - fixed it but was caused by Outlook having a melt down. I would love to switch from Outlook but they like it - buggy piece of junk that it is.

LOL, back to Lotus Notes! I absolutely hated the day they (US Govt) made us switch from Lotus Notes to Outlook. We finally got used to it, but to this day I dislike Outlook and refuse to install it.

I actually liked the original Lotus Notes! Simple, easy, yet got the job done.
