Mac HD and Time Machine backkup

My Mac Hard Drive shows "Used" space as 120 GB. My Time Machine, external HD, shows storage Used as 93 GB. Why is there a 27 MB difference? Is the 27 MB the size of the OS or thereabout?

Time Machine automatically excludes system files, including Trash and other things that don't need to be backed up. That's probably most of your difference right there.

In my case, I am using 141 GB but Time Machine is backing up 123 GB.

Nothing to worry about.
