I am working with my father this fall to earn some $$ so does someone have a good deal for me? I would love new/openbox but at this point I really dont care if its refurbed. I have been wanting a mac for four years now. I think its time I got one. Also I have been looking at the iMac. Any pointers/sellers there? BTW: wrote this on :Shouting: windows

Have you checked your local craigslist? There are sometimes good deals on there. Also, check the Apple refurb store - they sometimes have good deals. Also check macofalltrades.com. Do you definitely need a macbook? You can get good prices on iBook G4s that would be more in your range, and they are great computers, too.

Kuklachica makes a good point. I certainly understand your want for a MacBook...I love mine, but what do you really need? I started last year with a iBook G4 I bought on eBay. You can find these from about $400-700. They are nice, and if you are new to Macs, they are good to learn on, but still a very capable machine.

Good luck to you. I'd recommend that you check eBay often. I'll keep my eyes oen for you.

good point, but are iBooks thick and "clunky" so to speak? I looked at pictures of them but I havent found none that really give me the "feel" for them. Do they still sell them in stores? (Floor Model that I could look at?)

No, iBooks aren't clunky...they are probably a couple millimeters thicker than a Macbook. Weight is sort of noticeable. But if you run Panther or earlier Tiger versions, they are good to learn to use. I can only imagine what Leopard will be like for the G4 machines and their outdated graphics chipsets.

oh ok. well i mean i know how to use mac enough to do some basic things, i mean considering mac is pretty basic itself. quick question about macbook though, does macbook come in a matte finish? i mean if i got a black one it would be nearly impossible to keep finger smudges off since it is glossy? thats another reason why i am picky about colour of notebook, and silver looks too common. lol sorry if im being a pain!, its just that i would be using this computer for a long while and i want something thats functional for my working and stylish. lol

All macbooks have glossy screens. I HAD a black macbook with a matte screen though... the black macbook does have smudging cuz of the oil on ur skin...but its a ncie color though...

I am set on getting a macbook. and yeah i do like the black better but like i said does the exterior get smudgy easy, or is it matte finish? i have looked at pictures but none have convinced me of either.

dude for real you need to just go to the dam store and look at them since you have no idea about what a blackbook and whitebook look like up close....whitebooks suck for a few reasons, they turn yellowish if not taken care ofin certain spots where you touch it a lot, the whitebooks are glossy so scratches occur, these are not problems with blackbooks as the matte finish of the notebook itself is VERY resistant to scratchs....oily skin will show smudges occasionally but its nothing a wipe with a tissue wont solve, it doesnt really shos it that much....the white apple logo against the black looks killer as well =)

just to clarify....the black is a MATTE BLACK FINISH, fingerprints dont show!

ok got it now. thx for pics. and for info there was no black macbook on display the last time i went to my apple store, which was like last week. and personal preference: i think white looks cleaner, and btw they sell plastic films to protect handrest so it wont turn colors.

It's fairly common knowledge that the issue regarding white macbooks discoloring was in the FIRST Generation.... Apple fixed the problem long ago.
