but i've heard people haven't shut down their macs for ages. i know my uncles imac hasn't gone off since he got it about 4 months ago... just goes into sleep. i frequently turn off my macbook to save the battery, but the mac mini should be fine.

Its probably been around a year and a half since my computer was shut down and powered off.
And that was only because the power at my house went out and the battery ran down overnight.

I think it was about 3 or 4 months when I realized that I hadn't shut down my Macbook since I had bought it. I think it's been longer than that since that realization..... ;P

I have PCs and Macs running all day long for weeks, if not months, on end. There's a PC in my living room that hasn't been shut down since I installed it there several months ago and there hasn't been a single problem with it.

Don't worry, there's nothing wrong with leaving your computer running all day, except for maybe your power bill.

Lets see. Mac Mini Core Duo 1.66Ghz. Running Folding @Home for a team for 6 months, 24 hours a day, both cores 100%. Never one hiccup.

iMac G5 iSight up over a year with only reboots for installing updates till Bad stick of after market RAM caused issues. New RAM and it's been up another 8 months or more. It's always running something and always on the net. Real work horse machine.

Trust me, OSX is very stable.

XP on a proper machine is quite stable also. They both are very stable OS's. I just like OSX a lot more for my usage.

Not even if you had to install software that requires restart? :D

Remember, a Restart is not a complete Power Off! :D

Other than the 4 KP's I've had, my MBP has not been powered down since I got it - 8 months now.

My XP desktop has not been powered off since it's last internal cleaning and re-install, about a year now - time to do it again I guess - and this really is the only reason it's been actually powered down since I built it 3 1/2 years ago.

Don't think my wife's Dell has been turned off in a year and a half.

No, but if you look at the uptime on the dashboard, it's only since the last restart. I only shut down when requested to, or if I am going to be out for a few days.

Guys. Global warming. Its good to save power now and then. Takes like 25 seconds for a system startup. Doesn't hurt pressing Cmd+Option+Ctrl+Eject when going sleepy sleepy.
