I need some urgent help with this.

in order to use a file recovery program, I needed to enable the route user on the Mac. I did everything properly, logged out, and attempted to login again as the route user. The computer is now stuck on the screen after typing in the password. The round progress indicator spins, but nothing else is happening.

Is it safe to restart? What would be causing this? I do need to use this computer for work at 1 PM. Any urgent help would be appreciated.

You don't have to use the root user, not route. Anyway, the first account created on the Mac is automatically a super user and your password gives you those privileges.

Just reboot the machine and log back in as the regular user.
