UPDATE: turned out to be a video card problem i'm pretty sure. Read through those links and found a post that described a solution to the problem of the computer not starting up due to it hanging before loading the GUI and I was able to log in and get onto my desktop. The commands I used were: Boot to the command line using: -s At the command line enter: mount -o update / *This allows you to modify files* cd /System/Library rm Extensions.mkext *removes kext cache* cd Extensions mv NVDAResman.kext NVDAResman.back *Renames the problem kext file* shutdown -h now Since I do not know what booting with -f is nor how to change the names back after installing graphics I will just back everything up, erase and install, start from scratch and hopefully be happy ^_^ THANK YOU SO MUCH! I do not know if my problem is fixed but since I CAN get into the computer I am able to reformat and start over after backing up.
