I have recently installed Lion on my Intel IMac. After I 'Send' a message, the Window closes for the entire Mail program. Any suggestions for allowing me to remain in Mail and continue my tasks?

Do you have any third party mail plug ins installed? Because there is nothing in System Preferences or Mail Preferences that would cause the Mail window to close after transmitting a message.

What you might want to try is remove the Mail Plist file and let Mail create another upon closing and opening the program again. However, first you must unhide your user library folder which is hidden by default in Lion.

Do this: Open your Terminal app from Utilities and copy the following and press enter:

Code:
chflags nohidden ~/Library/

Make sure your Mail app is closed. Now use your Finder and navigate here:

/Users/your user name/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist

Either send this file to the Trash (do not empty yet) or move it to your desktop.

Open Mail and send yourself a test message to see what happens to the window.
