On my iMac, High Sierra, attached is a partitioned SSD drive to the USB port using a "C" USB adapter.

The iMac is set to sleep during the night hours awaking around 8 am.
The above message keeps appearing and the two partitions on the desktop are gone.

I have to unplug and reconnect to get the SSD mounted.

This is really annoying and does not happen to the other WD USB drives connected.

They remain connected after waking from sleep.

Why? How to fix? Unchecking Put hard disks to sleep when possible may help.

Don't let the CPU sleep. System Preferences/Power is where you find it. I seem to recall it was something like "prevent sleep when the screen is dark" or some such thing. The idea is to let the screen go dark, saving most of the power, but keep the CPU ticking over to keep the drives attached.

Typically the issue is that the drive enclosure software/firmware/hardware lets the drive stop after a while with no query from the CPU, but then when the CPU wakes up, the drive is no longer there and you get the error.

There is an option in Amphetamine to use Drive alive to specify supposedly what drive to keep active, alive. I entered the two partitions into the Drive Alive window.

Maybe that will work and is a good option.

Yes, that should work. Same result, the CPU keeps going to run Amphetamine, and it tickles the drive for you to keep the connection alive.
