Hello All!
I have a MacBook Pro using OS X 10.6.8 (The highest version I can use).
I have the padlock icon in the menu bar so I can lock my screen easily and for security. (See the second question, below, about the Apple person telling me to keep the Log In Keychain locked)

One of the entries under the icon is to lock/unlock the Microsoft Intermediate Certificate. A request to unlock it comes up on my desktop quite often, so I unlock it. The password is just a blank. And, the request will come up even if no Microsoft programs are open. In Keychain Access app, the left side bar has the Microsoft Intermediates listed under Keychains, but the main area is blank.

Part two is that I have 2 user profiles on my computer. This item in the list under the padlock icon is only on one of the profiles, but I use Word & Excel (Office 2011) on both user sides.

My main question is: Can I delete this from my keychain? I use Microsoft Office 2011, but only Word & Excel. I don't have Entourage or Outlook installed, which I believe are the programs that need this certificate.

My other question is:
I was also once told by an Apple Genius Bar person to keep the padlock locked for Log In due to security, but don't know how important that is, or if it is not critical at all. The only time I have to unlock Log In Keychain is to retrieve mail and only if I have not entered my log in password for 5 minutes or more.
Should I keep this padlock for Log In locked?

Thanks Very Much for your help & sharing knowledge!
Enjoy This Day,
Paul

Just in case someone else has this situation, I simply deleted the Microsoft Keychain & life's grand!
