I'm running macOS 12.1 on my new MacBook Pro, and I'm consistently having the problem that it defaults to my second keyboard on startup. I have both the U.S. keyboard and the Swedish keyboard set up. The U.S. keyboard is listed first (makes sense, my interface is in English), but when I restart my computer, it defaults to Swedish.

Why? And is there a way to change it?

System Preferences, Language & Region, Select Region of United States. That may do it.

Delete the Swedish kb, only add it when you need it?

You can try two things (if you have not already done so):

1. Keyboard preferences - Input Sources - place check in box "Automatically switch.........

2. After that, do a PRAM reset.

The PRAM reset will remove any old or corrupt user settings.

Admin chscag's answer is the obvious first choice. If it doesn't work:-

Another tip: you can also set an option in the Keyboard pane of Keyboard System Preferences to change input sources by using the Fn key.

It's located within the little box adjacent to "press Fn key to". Use the exposure arrowheads to make the change to "Change Input Source".
