Hi,

Just wondering if any of you could help.. been having this problem for a month or so.. but here is the initial info:

Macbook 2.0ghz (Early 2007) White
Snow Leopard

I am suffering kernel panics on boot (intermittent).. turn on, white screen, apple logo then the kernel panic screen of death appears (75% of the time) I can get into OSX if i attempt a few times.

I am not getting any kernel panic error logs in Library/Logs

I have no issue with shutting it down, i do however get kernel panics also when waking from sleep. It also locks up when I 'restart'

I have swapped the ram from my sisters working macbook and into mine no change.

I have reset PRAM etc.

I have bought a new hard drive and reinstalled OSX (I Did have a few kernel panics beofre the initial installation with the fresh hard drive in)

This is leading me to believe it is a hardware fault and not a software issue. Anyone had anything similar to this as its annoying.. it works fine once im in OSX, just very anooying initally to get in!

Any thoughts/help/advice will be greatly appreciated.

If you are able to open the panic logs and post the most recent one here, we'll look at it and see if anything looks out of the ordinary. Panics at login can be caused by a failing USB device, bad RAM, bad video RAM, or any number of other things. Hopefully the log file will shed some light on what might be going on.

I have no panic logs showing in Library/Logs.. but this morning alone it kernel panic'd approx 10 times before i finally decided to boot up.

Just to confirm, i have tested my macbook with working RAM out of another Macbook of the same age and i still have the same kernel panics.

I have no USB devices attached.

I found other reports of similar behavior from other users. The first thing they recommend is a full permissions repair. It might well be a hardware issue, but if the permissions repair resolves it, then no harm, no foul. If the unit won't boot normally, boot to the system DVD and run permissions and disk repair from it.
