Hi, so about 10 days ago i bought my first Macbook (I'm more of a pc fan), and shortly after updated the OS to El Captian despite the bad reviews. Everything has been fine and dandy until today. I was using it when suddenly and abruptly the Internet stopped working, web pages refused to load and switching to the Skype window resulted in a spinning wheel. Every other device in the household had no issues with the Internet so i figured there was an issue and decided restarting the machine would easily solve it.. Well, maybe that wasn't the best idea since now it won't boot at all.
Trying to boot normally results in getting about 75% way there before displaying the boot log (i assume) and restarting, only to have the same thing happen, trapped in a never-ending cycle. Attempting to start into safe mode does nothing, loads same as when trying to normally boot. The first time i powered down and turned it back on the start-up chime was still present, but after attempting to boot into safe mode the chime has now dissappeared even when trying to boot normally.
I also receive two slightly different boot logs (again, I'm assuming its the boot log) from when the chime was still present to after it had dissappeared. I'll try to describe them best i can. The first boot log (when chime was present) started with "(cpu 1 caller x*string of numbers)", also says "Mac OS version: not yet set" and "BSD process name corresponding to current thread: init". The second boot log i received was the same but started with "panic(cpu 0 caller 0x*string of numbers*): unexpected SIGKILL of init". These might not look 100% correct but I'm going off of memory but can find out what the string of numbers are or what else the boot logs contained if needed.
If anyone could help me I'd be so thankful, sorry for the long post but i wanted to give any details that might help resolve the problem. Thanks.

Go to Console and post the entire report.

Mentioning that CPU in the message may be drastic news. Contact the seller immediately.

I would do as Harryb suggested. Contact the seller. This could be a CPU failure or hard drive failure. It is hard to tell when it refuses to boot and keeps looping. You can't get into it to go to the console to even post the kernel panic report. It is a 2008 so it is 8 years old.

Sorry if i sound stupid but, how do i get to console? It's stuck in a boot loop.

What is happening is that it's immediately going into kernel panic. Try starting up in Recovery Mode = Press and hold Command + R keys. That should get you into recovery unless you have a serious hardware error. I doubt it's a bad CPU as that is a rare occurrence in any computer especially a 2008 MacBook. More than likely it's a hard drive failure. Did you receive any disks with the MacBook when you bought it? A late 2008 MacBook may have come with Leopard or even Snow Leopard.

Thank you all for trying to help out. I'm definitely going to be contacting the seller as i was told nothing was wrong with this laptop except for maybe some scratches.
I've tried to boot it with every key combination i could find, including the one that boots into recovery mode, but none of them have worked.
When i received it, it had lion installed on it, and sadly did not come with any installation discs.
In the meantime I've taken it into a computer repair shop to have the problem diagnosed. I was told it was indeed a hardrive failure, but that it was a reoccurring problem that the seller was probably aware of and that he'll be checking the kernal logs (i think?) to see when it last happened..
