So my wife is interested in Pages as substitute for MS publisher. We bought the office 2008 pack, and I don't really want to spend a lot on another pack that's got a lot of the same thing. On amazon I can get iwork 2008 for $20. Is there a big difference between the 2008 and 2009 versions? We've never had publisher on our windows machine, but she's always wanted it for home use (she has used it at work a lot) and $20 looked reasonable.

I don't believe there is that much difference between the 2008 and 2009 versions of iWork. And $20 for iWork 2008 is a good price.

However, having used MS Publisher on my Windows machine, and iWork Pages 2008 on my Mac, I wouldn't exactly say that Pages can be compared to MS Publisher. I guess it depends on what she wants to use it for....

If she really wants something that is similar to MS Publisher, take a look at iStudio Publisher. It's the closest I could find to MS Publisher and not pay a fortune for it.

Regards.

I downloaded a free trial of Istudio, we'll give it a look.

Thanks!
