itunes removing music

Hello everyone! I have a very simple question. How do you delete music files that are in the itunes library? I draged the files into the trash, emptied the trash, but the names of the songs are still there. I guess I'm trying to clear the list also.I know there is something very simple that I'm missing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Control-click (or right-click) on the songs you want deleted in your iTunes playlist and select Delete from the list. That should work. For any rearrangement you might want to do, always let iTunes manage the changes: manual changes don't register, in my experience.
