iTunes pausing every few seconds

I have a Mac mini running Mavericks. 8 gig ram which I am setting up as a media centre but iTunes keeps pausing every 6 -8 seconds. I have tried other players that read my iTunes library and they work. I have a large collection of 20,000 tracks so I want to use iTunes. Any ideas

No, not without more info. For starters, how full is the hard drive?

Thanks, The Mac has been wiped and mavricks loaded. 500 gig hard drive 218 gig free most of it taken up by my music

I'm a little unclear on whether you're saying this problem developer AFTER the Mac was "wiped and Mavericks loaded," or if you mean that since I wrote my last post you have done this. If the latter, did that solve the issue?

ITunes pausing

Hi it was a Mac mini I got from a friend, a 2011 i5 model. It was wiped before I got it and still had mountain lion on it. I upgraded it to Mavericks and upgraded the ram to 8 gig then loaded my music library. It was only after that I found the problem with iTunes pausing. I have loaded other media players that play the tracks fine but iTunes keeps pausing. Nothing else is running. I have checked to see if anything was hogging the processor but not that a could see. Occassionally when it pauses the beach ball starts spinning as if it is doing something but I can't see anything.

I have rebooted, verified the disk verified permissions etc but nothing solves it. I even did a recovery and reloaded the OS but still not solved.

Any ideas?
