Itunes not working for downloads/app updates

Hi
I recently encountered a situation where I downloaded an album from itunes as well as some app updates. Both the app updates and the album seem to be stuck where there is the spinning icon but nothing is being downloaded. I tried shutting down my phone and restarting it as well as making sure I had the most up-to-date itunes and I am still having this issue. Does anyone know what it could be and how to fix it?

Need more info if you are still having the problem. OS, device, memory, apps/updates you are trying to get.
