Itunes glitch

My iTunes states burner or software missing when I try to burn a CD - on MacBook Pro. I've closed down and quit and restarted... nothing. I've used it dozens of times before... any ideas?

You didn't supply us with any info about your MacBook Pro but assuming it does have an optical drive, have you tested it to see if you can play a CD or DVD?

Your external burner may have failed. Can you play a DVD or CD from the external burner when it's attached?
