Is there any way to copy DVD menus?

I just received a DVD that someone made on a PC. He made a really nice menu to go along with the video he made, but I cannot copy the menu onto my computer using Handbrake. Is there any way I can do that?

If you use MacTheRipper, you can rip the DVD to your hard drive and then open the VIDEO_TS directory with DVD Player. Then it will be just like you have the DVD in your drive.

Well, I can use Handbrake to rip the video. It's the menu that I want to rip as well just because it looks so cool. He did a really good job with it.

When you play the VIDEO_TS directory with DVD Player, you will see the menu.

You won't be able to play it on your iPod, though, if that's your ultimate goal.

I think Metadata Hootenanny will do what you want. I've never use it but have heard good things about it though.

I'm trying to rip DVD I own to my hard drive and keep the menus as well. I ripped w/ MacTheRipper, and it worked fine, but the files are huge! So I encoded with HandBrake, and the file is now smaller, but there are no menus.

Is it possible to use HandBrake to compress the movie files but still keep the menus?

Or maybe there is a different program I should be using?

I also know that you can use HandBrake to rip and encode (as opposed to using MacTheRipper for ripping, and HandBrake for encoding); if I were to use HandBrake for ripping and encoding, would the menu system be in tact? I realize I could figure this out by trial and error, but since it takes a good amount of time, I figured I'd just ask.

It's not an encrypted DVD, correct?

You should just be able to use Disk Utility to make a disk image of the DVD, which will give you an exact copy of the source DVD, menu and all. You can then burn that disk image onto another DVD.
