Is there a way to get Time Machine to show backups in 12 hour am/pm

I know this is an incredibly mundane and minor point; but I have my iMac set to show the date and time in the top menu bar as, for example, "Fri 14 Sep 2.46pm".

I like to check that Time Machine has done its job and when the last Backup was done. It shows this in the 24 hour format. In the above example it would show "last backup Today, 14:46".

I can't find any way to change this. No big deal, I know - and you could always say that I could change the iMac's time to 24 hour; but I like the am/pm setting.

Q. Can it be done? Is there a setting I'm missing?

Many thanks.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you BUT at the moment in Language & Region, in preferences, the 24hr box is ticked and in both TM and on the Menu bar I have the 24 hour time shown. If I untick the 24 hour box I get the am/pm time in both TM and on the Menu bar.

Got it pine man!

No, you did not misunderstand me - I misunderstood myself.

In macOS High Sierra > Language & Region, you are right there is a 24 hour - check or uncheck; but it doesn't make it clear that that applies to Time Machine as well.

See; I was right to ask the obvious. I never condemn other members when they ask a simple question which is why I just knew someone might come to my rescue:)

Thank you very much.

That doesn't sound like you Ian, but you are correct that a lot of things could be made clearer in OS X, and especially in their Help pages and descriptions.

And as for your Time Machine checking, what about creating an Automator/AppleScript script to send a notification when it has completed its last backup???

Just a thought… And it would only work if TM is actually scriptable no doubt. :Smirk:

PS: I don't think it is.

PPS: As for "clearer wording" and Time Machine, have a read here:
https://robservatory.com/apple-says-dont-use-time-machine-if-you-take-lots-of-photos/

Especially for those who store their photos on an external drive, and use TM as I understand it.

I don't use TM for any backups!!!

You are most welcome.

I believe in 'belt & braces' using both TM hourly and CCC daily to separate drives as well as lots of bits & pieces salted away in various 'clouds' !!
