Hello everyone. I'm 15 years old. Well I own a iBook g3 366mhz clamshell edition. I use it daily and I love it but I must admit it is slow and it is time to upgrade. I am undecided on wether I should go for an eMac or not. I would get the 1.25 ghz combo drive edition. I would upgrade the hard drive to either 80gb or 160gb. And I would also have 1gb of ram in it. (I would either buy it straight from apple or from a third party supplier). How are the eMacs with a gig of ram? Are they Fast? What is scaring me away from them is people saying that they do not run fast when having more than 4 programs open at the same time and they lag. What do you guys think? Also how are the screens? Are they nice? Well thanx in advance.

The eMac is wonderful. With 1 gig RAM you will run very well. With these specs You will be happy, and the 17" flat screen display is a gem!

You could also get an iMac G5 and not have to upgrade for a longer period of time.

well i was thinking about the imac g5 but i wouldnt be able to afford it. The thing that I really don't like about the eMac is the system bus. Its only 167mhz but i suppose with a gig of ram, it will be quick. Mostly I would use this computer for storing music. Browsing the internet. using aim and so on. I am now a sophmore in high school and I thought I would use this untill college and then when I would be attending college, I would get a power book or an ibook. alright thanx for the help guyz

I too was considering between an Imac g5 and an emac, imac ended up
being too expensive so i bought an emac 1.25 Ghz Superdrive model with 768 Meg RAM. And i couldn't be happier with it, the screen is bright and clear and i haven't experience lag or slowdown yet, (though i don't do video editing or anything).

the emac runs good with a gig of ram. the display is not issue. if you have a problem it is the graphic card.
you can always add a second better display to them emac using screen spanning doctor.

I think Apple is in the process up upgrading their computers. For instance, my eMac ($799) came with PC3200 memory vs PC2700 which both the website and my manual advertise.

I'd love to upgrade the harddrive and memory in mine If only I had the money to do so. :)

I had your exact model, I did put 1 gig of ram in there and to test it I opened up every application iLife had to offer, including Photoshop, dream weaver, I had a dvd playing, itunes playing and quick time playing a movie all at the same time. The only thing that lagged for me was the menu bar when I scrolled over it.

There were no crashes and the system handled it very well. The eMac is more powerfull then you think.

Multitasking is a pain on my original (2002) emac with g4 800mhz. I only have 512mb.

But if I have safari running, itunes playing and AIM open, you can forget about anything else being open and still running half way decent. I'm going to max out the memory to 1gb soon in hopes that it will make it better, but **** the computer is now 2 years old, it has held up EXTREMELY well, and the reliability can't be beat. I love this computer.
