Im a student, so i can only afford the baseline model of the MacBook Pro. Thinking about getting the standard 13" MBP. (cheapest one)

Anyways my friend bought one a few months ago, and today i went to his house to try out his MacBook... only to find out it was....GARBAGE.

The graphics cards on the 13" is a "intel HD Graphics 3000"
. *** is that? Is it suppose to be good...

Someone tell me the logic in making a an expensive laptop and then placing a graphics card they bought from a $2 store. I play this game called "Runescape" used to play it a lot when i was a kid, Don't play it often now, only go on casually. Anyways as u may know u don't need high-end graphics to play this game. Just a decent graphics card will do.. but.. what surprised me is that the MBP wasn't even capable in playing this game.
But if it can't play "Runescape".. there's no chance it can play MW2 in the lowest settings.
Is normal to all MBP's? or do u reckon he probably got a corrupted or bugged MacBook?

I was thinking of buying a MBP for school, but also to be able to go around the house (such as in my room or next to my neighbors pool :) and not go into the study room) and play games casually such as.. MW2 or WoW in the lowest settings.

Please be honest

The simple answer is that the low-end 13" MacBook Pro isn't a gaming machine by any stretch. If that's what you're after, you'll want to look elsewhere.

Sorry...but you're wrong about this...and I have to disagree.

My wife & I BOTH play Runescape all the time. She has a MacBook from 2009...and I have a MacBook Pro from 2007. The video hardware in both of these laptops is "inferior" to the "intel HD Graphics 3000" video hardware you mentioned.

I agree that you may not be able to play the latest & greatest games on Apple MacBook Pros. But in regards to Runescape...it plays just fine on my wife's 2-3 year-old laptop...and on my 4-5 year-old laptop.:)

Anybody who was serious about gaming wouldn't use a laptop. Or a Mac for that matter. ;)

^^^^What he said.

And I've already played several multi-hour sessions of WoW on my MBA, which incidentally, has the HD3000 integrated graphics.

internet?

You're going to have ABSOLUTELY no problems doing anything related to the internet with a MacBook Pro with the "intel HD Graphics 3000" graphics hardware!

If you are expecting Alienware (comparable in price for size) then you will be disappointed. MBP is not a gaming machine - that isn't what it was designed to do. Doesn't mean if CANT, just that it isn't optimized for it.

I have been playing quite a few games on mine just fine. However the Frames per second doesn't match up with a friend's Alienware. That's fine, for me. I bought my MBP for processing audio/video and photos. He bought his for gaming.

If you cannot afford the computer that will make you happy for gaming, WAIT until you can. If you settle, you will never be happy.

Expectations, expectations, expectations. Make sure you have a reasonable set.

please explain to me how i can play Runescape, WoW or Diablo on a PS3/Xbox

He was referring to using a desktop computer as opposed to a laptop computer.

Really? You could not get that? Or were you just trolling...

Why don't we stick to the topic you posted in post #1...instead of getting side-tracked with how to play Runescape on a PS3 or Xbox.

I think that what "Chuckoir" is suggesting is...gaming on a "Windows desktop" is the best way to go for "serious gaming...and that gaming on either a Windows laptop, Macintosh laptop, or a Macintosh desktop computer is not the best way to go.

Are you just yanking our chain now? Nothing was said about a PS3 or Xbox. You've never heard of a desktop computer?

There are no "serious" PC gamers that are not building their own gaming machine. If you're not building your own, I'd have to say you're not "really" serious about your gaming either.

Who said i was serious about my gaming, and i do have my own gaming machine, i didnt build it myself, but i got some dude to gather up my preferred specs and he built it for me.

But my questions was.. i need a laptop for school.. is it worth buying it if i ever wanted to play some light casual gaming when im not IN my study room.
Can the Intel HD 3000 graphics handle some light gaming when put on the lowest settings. I need proof though, show me a video if u can.

Any machine with integrated graphics as opposed to a discrete GPU, is not going to be satisfactory for some of your stated needs. If you really want a Mac laptop, save up some extra money and go with the low end 15". It will have more than enough GPU for the games you mentioned and I suspect you'll be a lot happier in the long run.

If you feel people here are lying to you and you need video proof, perhaps another forums would be more to your liking. People here have told you they play some of the games you mentioned and they are fine. Is that not enough? I could make videos all day long, but won't go through the trouble. Why should I bother as even if I did you sound like you would find fault with it anyway.

I was trying to sleep but something told me to come back and check this thread. It's going just how I predicted it would.

Let's focus on the important things. You've mentioned a couple times that this computer is for school...so this should be the first priority...and casual gaming second. So get the computer for school work...and whatever gaming you are able to do with it is a bonus!:)

I need proof though, show me a video if u can.
Not really necessary. First because the primary reason (which you mentioned) is this computer is for school.

2nd...not necessary because all you have to do is look up the system requirements for the "casual" gaming titles that you're interested in playing...and compare that to the MacBook Pro's specs to see if things match up.

There will always be more game titles released in the future that you will want to play...and you won't have any "proof videos" for them either.;)

Then a PC notebook with be your friend. Windows 7. Get one and play your games for $500 and be happy. If it gets infected or dies, AnandTech will help you. I don't think a Mac is for you.
