Is it normal for the combo drive to scratch CDs?

Just purchased a 12" 1.2ghz iBook, and everything's peachy with one exception. I've noticed that upon inserting and removing a disc in the slot loading combo drive, the disc gets scratched. These aren't severe scratches, but rather just one or two VERY thin, only visible in the right light at the right angle scratches. I suppose it's not a big deal, but I'm pretty anal about the condition of my CDs, so I'm wondering if this is just something to be expected with the slot loading drives...perhaps a result of the disc rubbing against the felt(?) lining the drive entrance or something along those lines. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

i have never noticed this on my PB before and it is a few years old with dirty felt...i dont think this is 100% normal, and i know that very fine straight scratches are not detrimental to a cd...it is the curved ones you need to really watch out for...

maybe someone else can shed a little more light...but if you put them into your ibook once and rip them then you should be all set cuz you'd never have to put them in again cuz they'd be on your 'book
