I see the iCloud icon after downloading iOS5 but haven't called it up. Does that mean I now have iCloud? I'm running Snow Leopard. Will I have to go to LION to use iCloud? Thanks from a Apple newbie.

In short, yes, you need Lion to use iCloud with OS X. You can use it with your iOS device though. Follow the instructions here.
